Art Project: Making A Cake

Hello Everybody! How are you all doing?

Today is another art project post.  So I want to talk about something that I’ve learned how to make during my trip. Because I am traveling, it is not easy to create new projects. I can’t wait for the day for me to make something new. But may it work with whatever I have in hand.

What did I make?

This time I made an ice cream cake. Yes, it is a cake that is only made with ice cream. It seems complicated at first. And you wonder how can it be done. But after watching and practicing, now I have a basic knowledge on how to make it.

So how is an ice cream made?

From my experience, I’ve seen two ways on how to make an ice cream cake. The first one is to cut the tub of ice cream. Then you take a slice of it an cut it up to the shape of the cake you desire. It is not easy to cut up a tub of ice cream. After you make the cake, where would you put the remaining excess?

The second method is quite easier than the first. You first make a mold. Then you cover the mold with parchment paper so it won’t stick. After that, you put in the freezer for a few minutes for it to cool down. Meanwhile, you take out the ice cream from the freezer. You want it to soften up a little. Make sure you do not let it melt.

After the ice cream has softened, you take out the mold from the freezer. Little by little you had scoops into the mold. Don’t put too much or you’ll make a mess while pushing it in shape. We have to push it down to remove any air bubbles. So adding it scoops little by little is the best way.

If I want to make layers for different flavors, I try not to add so much. Then after pushing the ice cream in place, I make sure to smooth the surface even. Then I wipe the walls of the mold all around above that layer, to prevent it from mixing the flavors. If it is going to be only one flavor, I put it back into the freezer without wiping.

Minutes later in the freezer is enough to solidify the ice cream again. With that done you can proceed to add the next layer if you want different flavors. Or continue with the same flavor as before. Oh, I forgot, remember to put the ice cream back into the freezer when you don’t need it. Melted ice cream is useless for an ice cream cake.

If you want to add another layer, you can repeat the wiping step again. But if your mold is full, you’ll need a long flat spatula. I am not a baker, so I don’t know how that is called. So with the spatula, you have to scrape the excess ice cream. With that, you can make a very flat and smooth top. The excess can be placed back with the rest of the ice cream. Clean around the edges of the mold and put the cake bake into the freezer. Let it sit for a few hours or overnight.

Hours later or the next day, you remove the cake from its mold. Then peel off the parchment paper and place the cake on a base. You can now proceed to decorate the cake whatever you want. With this cake, I took a star-shaped tip and placed dollops of whipped cream all around the top and bottom edge. Then I added rainbow sprinkles all over the whipped cream. And to top all up, I used jelly with a fine round tip to write a message on the cake.

So there you have it, a new art project post. For me creating this cake was like a work of art. I’ve always had an interest in learning how to decorate a cake. And I guess this was my chance, even if it was made out of ice cream. I can’t wait to make a cake for myself. Because I still haven’t eaten any of the ones that I’ve made. I hope you’ve enjoyed these kinds of posts. As this will be my last art project post for 2018. Wait as will be making more interesting projects next year.

Do not forget to give me a visit at my new website The Senspirational ArtRoom. All I need is your support and now you can do so by going to my Patreon page. Or go to see my older drawings at DeviantArt. There are also many other sites that I am currently active. Never forget to add me on FacebookTwitterInstagramTumblr, and on Pinterest.
