Hello Everybody! How are you all doing?
Today I want to show you one of my side experiments. I have a lot of art supplies. With time they grow more and more. I still do not have an inventory list of all the art materials I currently have. I always make sure that I am using the best of the best. Good quality reach good results. So I often test my art supplies.
Why do I test my art supplies?
I want to make sure that I using the best. Also to know that I am using the proper medium. I wouldn’t want to use by mistake a watercolor paper with some water markers. The paper could soak up all the ink and leave the marker dry. There are many more mistakes that could happen if you don’t know what medium you are working with.
By testing my art materials I can learn which product works best with each other. Not every pencil colors the same. Not all brushes apply paint on even. And not all inks have the same amount of pigment. Also some colors look brighter than others when added to a certain type of paper. So I do test my papers as well as my markers, pencils and paints.
What type of testing did I worked on?
On the picture above, I wanted to test both types of papers. On the right side is Mixed Media and on the left side is Bristol paper. I also tested some black pens to see how well it worked. Some pencils and pens don’t look the same on both sides. Some of them work better on Bristol or on Mixed Media. I must say that in over all it worked better on Bristol. So I will keep it in mind next time which pens work better on Bristol paper. Because it worked better on the Bristol paper than on the Mixed media, it doesn’t mean that the paper is useless. I will need to find better techniques to improve the outcome.
This is the list of markers and pens I used:
- Prismacolor Scholar
- Primacolor Premier Markers
- Pigma Sakura Pens
- Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils
- Crayola Colored Pencils
- Inktense Watersoluble Pencils
- Pentalic Watercolor Pencils
- Prismacolor Colored Pencils
- Micron Pen
- Chameleon Detail Pen
- Sakura Pigma Sensei Pen
So I drew some flowers to color in with each marker and pencil. I wanted this test to look pretty. This is the first time that I’ve tested the papers this way. I found that making color circles on the papers was kinda boring. Now I have colorful flowers on my journal. I made sure to color each flower with a distinct color. After this I soon will test on other papers I have. I will even use the same list of pens and pencils, to prove if how well they work on other mediums.
And there you have it. Me testing on art papers and supplies. Each day I am working my way on creating new art. I could be falling behind on my projects. It’s because I don’t know how to use my time. Sometimes I leave things to do them at the last moment. For example this post. I had days to write it, but like always I am writing it on the day before. I want to know why am I this way? I guess I will have to search up a way have to get rid of this bad habit. It might now be a big problem now. But I don’t know what would it do to me in the future. It is better to solve your problems before it becomes a huge mess you can repair.
