Hello Everybody! How are you all doing?

You all must be enjoying this summer to the fullest. Do everything you can. Because classes will start again soon. What about me? Well I am doing fine. I am working, planning and saving a lot of money. It is a big sacrifice. But it is something I’ve decided to do. Of course I prefer to not be working. Going to the beach or the pool everyday. But there isn’t pleasure without a any sacrifices. What I mean is, that I have to work hard to get what I want.

Today I want to talk about art. This time it is art that I made for classes. I call them class artworks. This is one that I made a while back. I was still in my second year in college. After getting tired of taking such boring classes. I decided to give ceramic class a try. It want easy to find it at first. A friend of mine took the class a year before I did so I was already looking forward to it.

Ceramic class is an expensive class. If you compare it to the others. The reason is because part of the credits pay the electric bill. In ceramics you need a oven to cook the clay. So it seems that the oven must take a lot of power for it to work. It seems reasonable. I didn’t complain about it. There are other things in the tuition get billed but you never use it. For example technology and maintenance. I use their computers, printers and internet like crazy. But other don’t and still don’t recognize that they pay for having those services.

Well I got side tracked back there. Lets return to the topic. I was talking about ceramics. It is also called pottery class. I did like that class a lot. You would go to class and chat with your fellow classmates as you worked on your piece. I would sometimes go on other days and take part in another class section. Or stay longer than the length of my class. It was at a nice your too. Always before lunch at 10 am.

So in the period of time that I took the class I worked on four different pottery pieces. One was a rounded, bottle shaped, cube form and the last one was irregular. The picture above is of the cube shaped piece I made. It is my favorite one. I did put a lot of details into it. And I also like that color.

How did I make it? If I can remember well, it was like building a gingerbread house. The professor told me to first flatten out a ball of clay. Not too flat or it would be too delicate. Thick enough to be sturdy like a 1/4 of an inch. Then you cut out 5 flat squares. One is for the bottom of the box. The other four squares will become the surrounding walls. You stick them all together and voila. You have a clay box. After that you can add all the details and whatnot. If you also want a lid then with the same method. You flatten out clay. Make a bit more thicker and cut a square out of it.

You think that pottery is hard. Something only meant for experts. But is not. After you give it a try it becomes manageable. And I also has the professor there with me if I needed any help. I do have some left clay. I don’t know it it still works though. I do miss pottery class. It felt like being a little kid all over again playing with play dough. I tell you to give pottery a try. It is better than working with plastilina. That thing is smelly. And not in the good way. When was they last time that you did art with your bare hands?

So there you have it. Another post about artworks that I’ve made in class. I recently found my bag of clay. So there could be a pottery artwork soon. Well I have to get back into preparing. I said that I was going to take a week to create as many drawings as possible. I am certain that I won’t be able to work on it on a full week. I have a job. Some of those days I get back home late. I hope you are enjoying my posts so far.
