Creative Practice: Watercolors Pt. 2

Hello Everybody! How are you all doing?

Welcome to a new post! Today is a different day. And today I want to talk about art. That is not surprise to you all. That is what I like to talk about all the time. There is so much that I’ve discovered in less than a week, and I want to share my discoveries.

So I spend a lot of time at home now. And times like these I go for drawing. I’ve been drawing every day since February. I drew a new character each time. I finally was able to finish an 80 sheet sketchbook. I would have made more if I drew on the back of the page. But I know better to not do that anymore. The journal that I used was amazing. I don’t regret buying the Leda Art Supply sketchbook. I wish I could use wet mediums on it. If I could, I would buy another one.

Along while drawing through the whole sketchbook, I also was trying out a new way of inking. I ditched the pens and started using a dip pen. I love it now. It makes my drawing look a whole world of difference. I don’t regret doing the switch. I still have my pens but I love the dip pen more. The sad part is, that the ink I was using isn’t waterproof. So I can’t use water neat it. It works perfectly for my lovely sketchbook, but I can’t use it on drawings that I plan to watercolor.

After months and months of drawing practice. I realized that I have to practice with my watercolors. So I have to search which of my many sketchbooks can do the job. So far I have three of them and a bunch of watercolor paper sheets. I’ve been so frustrated that my art doesn’t come out as good as I want them to be. And each time a color something I try to improve or change something. But the difference isn’t enough for me.

I needed help, so I watched plenty of art tutorials. From what is the best paper to brush reviews. At the end of the day, I created a $200 wish list of art supplies. I was very close to buying it. But I held back the last minute. I don’t have a work desk. So I wouldn’t be practicing with my new supplies anytime soon. And the delivery to my apartment would also a pain during this pandemic.

Before any of this can happen, first I have to move out of me current apartment. Then furnish it, which I would buy my work desk. Then I can buy my art supplies. All that process would take almost 5 months. So I don’t need new art supplies sitting around waiting for me to use them. If I could I would get them along with my desk and chair. But I have no space here to work.

A new realization came to me. Is not that I didn’t know. Is more like I have forgotten about it. So I use these pens, which you can add water and they work like watercolors. But they aren’t. For some reason I kept thinking that I was using watercolors. But I am not. They are water soluble markers. I can’t be expect my marker to work as watercolors when they are not. So I do not plan to use these pens in the future on good quality paper. Now my mission was to practice coloring with supplies from the same quality.

So I took a new Canson XL Watercolor Journal to use it with my water-soluble pens. It is working okay, but I have yet to color a full drawing. I’ve been dying to use my dip pen. But I can’t, because I am going to use water. I am planning to buy waterproof ink and many other inks too. If I am going to use professional-grade papers, then I am going to pair them with professional-grade watercolors. I do regret not doing this sooner. Or the fact that I didn’t know any better of the art supplies I’ve been doing.

Now I am ready to practice. I’ve set a list of ideas that I want to draw. This was the only thing holding be back from doing any practice for the past two weeks. Without an idea or an inspiration I am rendered useless. Now know what I want to do. A bunch of characters, new ones and random ones.

I was also planning to what to do with my Strathmore Mixed Media. This sketchbook is so important to me. It is so important that I’ve changed plenty of times what I want to draw in it. But I still have sketchbooks. And they are never going to end. I can’t stop myself from buying them. If the situation goes on, I plan to make some changes to show my practice. But it depends how well I go and the current situation.

And here I am, waiting for time to pass as I practice my art. I’ll finish my Canson sketchbook before that even happens. The sketchbook only has 32 pages. I do have a new Strathmore mixed media. I can draw and ink them with pens. But I wouldn’t color them until I had the new watercolors. I hope this keeps me busy for the next four months. I did imagine my summer going a lot differently. But this is what I got, so I shouldn’t complain. I have a job and the weather isn’t that hot.

There you have it. This journey took me like a week. Watching art videos till midnight. And I am satisfied with the results that I found. But I am upset that I won’t be able to do any of it for a while. While I wait, I’ll practice with what I have in hand. I hope that the Canson and the Zig Clean Pens are soulmates. Cause I can’t continue looking for supplies to pair them with. So please wish me good luck!

Do not forget to give me a visit at The Senspirational ArtRoom. All I need is your support and now you can do so by going to my Patreon page. Or go to see my older drawings at DeviantArt. There are also many other sites that I am currently active in. Never forget to add me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Pinterest. Well, I’ll leave now. Be nice to others and have a nice day!

See you all later and take care,
