Hello everybody! How are you all doing?
Today I want to talk about a list I made a while back. It was during those days of me discovering the need to travel. At the same time discovering how much I wanted to learn a new language. Placing one and two together, I thought of making a Language Guide. If I was going to travel into non-English speaking country. A language guide is a must. Unless you already know their language. I will use my language guide during my travels. But at the same time I am trying to learn Italian, French and German. It is wise to no learn so many languages at the same time. You might end up mixing them up.
So I had two options either learn a list of languages, which would take me a while. You don’t learn a new language in a day or a month. Or make a tiny book, with the most common phrases and questions that a traveler might need. On my book I wrote a long list of words, phases and questions. Then under those words I wrote the translation in Spanish or any other language I needed. At the moment on my list I have: English, Spanish, French, Italian, Catalan, German, Dutch, Greek, Russian, Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean translations. Filling up their translations aren’t as easy as you think. Google translate is never the option, it isn’t reliable. I have to verify the translation on different sites and language dictionaries.
So here is part of the travel phases I have in my language guide:
1. Hello Hola
2. Goodbye Adiós
3. Good morning Buenos Días
4. Mr. Señor
5. Good day Buen Día
6. Mrs. Señora
7. Good evening Buenas Noches
8. Miss Señorita
9. Good afternoon Buenas Tardes
10. Boy Niño
11. Goodnight Buenas Noches
12. Girl Niña
13. My name is… Mi nombre es…
14. Guy Muchacho
15. What is your name? ¿Cual es tu nombre…/Como te llamas?
16. How are you? ¿Como estas?
17. Lady Dama
18. I am doing/not doing, well. Yo estoy/no estoy, bien.
19. I am from… Yo soy de…
20. Where are you from? De donde eres?
21. How long are you in…? ¿Cuanto tiempo vas a estar en…?
22. I am here for…day/week. Yo estoy aquí por…día/semana.
23. See you later. Te veo despues.
24. Thank you Gracias
25. Very much Muchas
26. Please Porfavor
27. You are welcome De nada
28. Excuse me Con Permiso
29. I am sorry Perdon/ Lo siento
30. I am an American citizen. Yo soy un ciudadano Americano.
31. Have a good trip. Tenga un buen viaje.
32. Do you have souvenirs? ¿Tu tienes recuerdos?
33. Do you sell…? ¿Usted vende…?
34. How much is this/that? ¿Cuanto cuesta esto/eso?
35. I can only pay…euros/ pounds Yo solo puedo pagar…euros/libras.
36. I only have…euros/ dollars with me. Yo solo tengo…euros/dollares en mí.
37. Can I have it for… euros/pounds? ¿Me lo puedo llevar por…euros/libras?
38. Do you have something cheaper? ¿Tienes algo más barato?
39. Do you have it in a (smaller/bigger) size? ¿Lo tienen en un tamaño más (pequeño/grande)?
40. What time does the shop (open/close)? ¿A que hora la tienda (abre/cierra)?
41. What would you like? ¿Que le gustaría?
So there you have it a list of travel phases and it’s Spanish translation. This list is only 1/6 of the true list. I am thinking about publishing it by parts. But that is something for a near future. Also I have to complete it too. Mandarin, Korean, Greek, and Russian are the hardest translations to find. But like I said before, it isn’t as easy as you think.
