Art Plastilina Clay

Hello everybody! How are you all doing?
Today I want to talk about another art project I did in class. The art works that I am showing you are very recent. I finished this a few weeks ago. Thinking about it, I won’t have more recent class artworks after the end of the semester. I do have older ones. But soon I will run out of them. By then I will know what else to show.
In class I modeled my Canon DSLR camera. The professor wanted us to use an item that had a lot of details. For some reason I thought that modeling my camera was the best idea. During the process I was regretting of modeling the camera. The clay I was using was so hard and smelly. Sometimes I would stop working during in class cause the smell was giving me headaches.
That was my first time modeling an object. I’ve done clay figures before in ceramic class. But this was hard. To shape the tiny details I needed to use the smallest tools. I started with ceramic tools, then moved on with dentist’ utensils. In the end, I was using a thread and different sized needles. If I had more time, I bet I could have made it look a better than it looks now.
It was disappointing to hear that the plastiline would never harden, or painted. In other words, after working so hard in making this modeling figure near to perfect. Ruined if touched, bumped or fell. The only thing I can do is, make a molding out of it. With that molding I can make more figures. I will save my figure for later and work on it one day, if I want to. The professor told us that if we store it well, the clay can last me for years and reuse it for other projects.
What I did first was, I chose the item I wanted to model. Drew a realistic image of it from three different angles. Made sure to represent all the details and shading. After that I took all the measurements to the camera and wrote it down next to the images. If I want to recreate the same object, I need to make it with it’s exact proportions. In class we built a 10 x 10 plywood base.  A skeleton which ever material to make the figure lighter.  Also because the clay is expensive it is better to have a skeleton to occupy some mass. So you don’t have to buy so much clay. I used a rectangular foam and attached it to the plywood base with wooden sticks and craft glue. To make the camera I only used one clay block.
So what did I learned from this project? Well I learned that you need patience. You need to dedicate a lot of time to work on the piece. The clay is hard, massaging  it would give me a handache sometimes. I don’t know what else. Oh, you have to be very attentive to details and check your measurements all the time.
And there you have it, another class artwork. Talking about it remembers me to finish others. Right now I have to finish the calligraphy project. I am planning the Digital Art project and another sculpture made out of plaster. If you liked my post and want to see more. You can give me a like and subscribe. On my site or in any other social media site that I am at. You can go and visit me in at Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and on Pinterest. Well I’ll leave now. Be nice to others and have a nice day!
See you all later and take care,
from Ijiserure.
