Overcoming Artistic Funk: Part 2

Hello Everybody! How are you all doing?

Welcome to my new post! I am still taking my break. But I am also working out on trying to relieve myself from this artist block. My plan is to write down everything that has been bothering me. That way I will find the deep root of it. I am hoping this works. I want to make new drawings as soon as possible. As of now, I’ve fallen behind so much. But if this makes me feel better then that wait would be all worth it in the end.

How did all this even start?

Well, I’ve been pushing myself to create more artwork as soon as I started streaming. I complete two artworks per week and then I only post one each Friday. To be fair, that is more work than I am used to. Now I don’t remember how often did I finish an artwork. I did start making more since the moment I discovered my mixed media method. If I remember well, it was once a week or four to five artworks per month. Now that I am streaming the output has doubled. That could be a reason why drawing and coloring feels like a bother. It has become a weekly chore.

Another reason could be when I started to plan my daily practice. For the past three years, I’ve been practicing my drawings. That is how I get better. So I wanted to do this again for this year. This is how it goes, I get a new sketchbook. I find new ideas, enough to fill that sketchbook. Then I proceed to draw a new page each day until it is full. I was ready to practice once again. The only part where I failed was getting new ideas.

I spent weeks finding ideas to fill my sketchbook. But I ended up having more ideas than pages. So I found a new sketchbook to fit it all in. Then I get ideas that are not related to the first few, and I want to group them all together. And I get another sketchbook for that. Some ideas are for specific art supplies and I find a journal to accommodate that. This cycle continues over and over again.

This is the order of how it goes

  • Pick a sketchbook to practice with
  • Have too many ideas to fill on all pages
  • Get a bigger sketchbook
  • Get more ideas to fill the rest of the pages
  • Some ideas are unrelated to the previous ones
  • Get a new journal to keep said ideas separate
  • Some ideas fit better for some art mediums
  • Then I separate ideas per mediums

I can never make my mind. At least I know what I want to draw in my two Canson XL Mixed Media sketchbooks. Each has 60 pages so that is a total of 120 drawings. Then I have three expensive journals which I can’t waste with simple drawings. Whether I have ideas to fill them up is debatable. Sometimes I do and sometimes I change my mind because they aren’t good enough. It has been two months since then. And I still can’t make up my mind.

So far I have two sketchbooks I want to use. I still can’t make up my mind of what I want to draw in them. I have a slight idea of what could it be. But this block prevents me from moving forward. At least I feel a little better. I have enough sketchbooks and journals to fulfill each whim. I am almost getting there. I have to take one step at a time. All I know is that I have to make up my mind soon. I will be moving out and these ideas and thoughts might end up getting scattered to the wind.

I am guessing that the whole reason for me to have all the same ideas compiled in one sketchbook stems from last year’s art practice. I had a huge sketchbook last year, it had more than eighty pages. So that was a lot of ideas that I needed to come up with. And I managed to fill it up. The sad part was that the pages can’t handle anything that isn’t dry medium. One day I’ll scan them and print them out on watercolor paper. I should forget about all this and go back to when I had my blue sketchbook. A sketchbook and an inspiration were all I needed.

So please wish me good luck and I hope you have a nice day!

Do not forget to give me a visit at The Senspirational ArtRoom. All I need is your support and now you can do so by going to my Patreon page. Or go to see my older drawings at DeviantArt. There are also many other sites that I am currently active in. Never forget to add me on Facebook, TwitchInstagramTumblr, and Pinterest. Well, I’ll leave now. Be nice to others and have a nice day!

See you all later and take care,

from Ijiserure.
