Sketchbook Art: Osiria

Hello Everybody! How are you all doing?

Welcome to my new art post! And I am in time to post my most recent artwork. I’ve been working all week to get this done on time. But I am happy that is ready and I can show this off as soon as possible. I can only color during the day cause I don’t have a bright enough lamp.

So I made a new character. I wasn’t planning to make a few weeks back. But I decided to do it. Now I have to create a story for her. I got inspired by Sleeping Beauty because I have an obsession with sleeping. The point is, that I wanted to know what was the princess going through while she was in her never-ending slumber. And this is the result I got.

So who is this character?

Her name is Osiria, like the two-colored roses. I wanted her name to be relevant to the source of inspiration. So I kept is rose themed. Either that or I was going to call her Talia if you know where I am getting it from. I changed her origin story a little bit. Or should I say that I arranged it for my convenience?

This is how her story goes.

Osiria is a princess born to the benevolent kingdom. After her birth, the Queen and King took her to an oracle to foresee her future. It showed that the princess would have an early death and the cause of it. So for protection, sending her to live in the woodlands on the outskirts of the kingdom was the best option. The fairies disguised as humans. They were in charge of taking care of her until the kingdom was safe enough for the princess to live there again.

While she was away the King and Queen started to discard all the spinning wheels in the kingdom. All textiles were now imported from other nearby kingdoms. After the kingdom was safe the princess as invited to live back to the castle. So many years went by and her coming-of-age was already gone. The King and Queen believed that after becoming an adult she was out of her death sentence.

It took a while for the princess to get used to her royal life. But in a year she was behaving like a person who belonged in the royal family all along. The King and Queen wanted to celebrate the princess’s first birthday in the castle. Her parents never got the chance to see her daughter grow up.

On her grand day, the castle was busy with preparations. Food, decorations, guests, and gifts. There was no second to waste to make this event special for the princess. The only thing the princess had to do was get ready and show up to the ball. So while she waited in her bedroom a maid came looking for the princess. She informed a princess that she received a special gift, and she was taking her to see it.

The maid took her to an unused room in the castle. Inside was her gift, a spinning wheel with custom engravings all over it. The princess was very happy about it. She now had a tool to create her own dresses. She was so excited to figure out how to use the spinning wheel that she pricked her finger on the needle by accident. Seconds passed and she started to feel sick. She asked her maid for help but she was already gone. The princess collapsed on the floor without nobody knowing her whereabouts.

The party was about to begin. The food was ready and the guests were there. Everybody was waiting to meet the princess. The lady-in-waiting went to the princess’s quarters to bring her to the ballroom. But she couldn’t find her. So she went looking for the princess at her usual spots. But she was missing. The lady informed the King and Queen. Then the King sent all the servants to search each room on the castle and the guards to protect every exit. The guests had no clue about what was going on. As long as there were food, drinks, and music they didn’t care to pay attention to anything else.

They found the princess and sent to her room. At first, they thought that she was sick. But the fairies noticed that the princess was under a death spell. The King and Queen and the fairies saw a vision of what happened. All because of a spinning wheel. They realized that this was the death they were all trying so hard to avoid. Knowing that there wasn’t much they could do as her time was running out.

The King cut the party short and sent the guests home. All heartbroken the fairies gave the princess her last gifts. One was never-ending sleep, that way it would stop the curse from spreading. The second was eternal beauty, so that the princess wouldn’t age while waiting to wake up. And the third gift was forever happiness so that in her dreams no sadness would take her.

Out of pain and rage, the Queen burned the spinning wheel. And the King wanted punishment for the maid. The servants were very shocked to see their King and Queen be so violent. But they understood the great loss they were going through. They also lost someone important, their princess. The maid was never found, she didn’t even work at the castle. The spinning wheel burned with black flames, prooving that it had a curse. The only thing the King and Queen could do was wait until the day the fairies could find a spell to wake up the princess.

So that is how her story begins. You know how the story ends. The question is if you know what happens to the princess’s side of her story. What does she do while she lays there and waits? That is for you to find out and for me to create. Anything can happen cause she is dreaming. Weird and crazy things happen during dreams. And we accept them as if there were the truth. Unless you know you are inside a dream.

And there you have it a new character art from my sketchbook. Now I have to start on a new drawing. I am so busy with work that I take two hours each day to color a bit before going to work. Thank goodness that I work in the afternoon. But I have to buy a lamp if I want to be productive during the nights. And a lap desk too. I can’t be laying all my art supplies on my bed. So please wish me good luck!
