How Do You Get Into The Artist Mood?

  • Hello Everybody! How are you all doing?Today I want to talk about how do I get into my artistic/ creative mood. It is something I do when I want to get motivated into doing some art. Most of the time the idea is not there. Or I am to lazy to start something. But I can’t let something like that prevent me from working. There are times that with or without an idea I have have to get things done.

These are things that I do to enter into my creative mood:

  • Eat something to lift your energies up.
  • Experiment with your art supplies.
  • Look up for some art ideas online.
  • Find a comfortable and spacious place to work at.
  • Relax a little.
  • If you have an idea…just do it!So I first start by eating something. I don’t care which time of day it is. If I am hungry I won’t be able to do a thing. Who wants to do art with an empty stomach. In my case I would eat something l like. It can be home made or take out. Don’t eat too much or you’ll end up having a nap after the meal. For me I would eat a sandwich or some pasta and a bit of sport’s drink on the side.

After getting my stomach full, I refreshed and feeling like I can do some work. I want to do art but I have no “inspiration”. You do not need inspiration to be creative. Take out your art supplies and start experimenting. Sooner or later you will get an ideas of something you want to paint or draw. While practicing something amazing can come out of it. The key is that you must be doing something first. For example: a few days ago, I was testing some pens and pencils with different types of paper and sketchbooks. Instead of making spots of colors, I drew some flowers instead. In each flower I will test my art supplies. I started by experimenting and something creative came out instead.

Sometimes I need to look at other artworks to get my gears moving. So I would go online and see what other people have made. It makes me want to do the same. It is better to not search for too much. As it can motivate you into doing some art it can also discourage you. It can make you feel like you aren’t good as those people and that your work won’t be as good as theirs. So remember that searching online for artworks is to motivate yourself to make your own. Or to find some ideas so you can start something.

Finding a comfortable place to work at. That is a tough one for me. I have mentioned it before that I only have my bed on where to work on. It is very uncomfortable and I have gotten used to it. But it is a good tip to know that working in a comfortable desk is more efficient. When I work on my desk, I get tired faster. Most of my work are left undone half way because of it. I have to rest from sitting in the same position for so long.

Relax a little., cause pushing yourself does not bring any benefits. Unless you are fighting against laziness. In that case, push yourself a little bit more. Laziness is my biggest obstacle. Being lazy once brings more laziness in the long run. But if you are in pain, hungry, sleepy, or need a break. Then I tell you do so. There is no reason to do something that you like while feeling awful. I take breaks and naps all the time. Or get distracted to many things around me. In the end I try to get everything I’ve started done.

If you have an idea, do it!. Get it done as soon as possible. Do not wait days, weeks or months. I know some ideas come in the most random moments. I could happen while driving, in the shower, in a dream, or when you lay in bed at night. This is the most difficult for me. I am always leaving my work for later or sometimes I need to postpone. Because there is something else that I have to do at the moment. The worst is to finally have an idea and forget that you ever had it. Why? Because you left it for later. What I do is that I write it down as soon as possible. If not, then I would be later on wondering why did I even had that idea in the first place.

And there you have it. These are the steps I take to get into the artist mood. Over time I learned how to do so. I did everything I needed. If there something that was stopping me from working I would find a way how to solve it. I hope you can take this and apply it to yourselves. This steps I do them every time. It has become a pre-working  check list. Everything has to be checked off before I start creating. Some of you might already have your own ways to get into the artist mood. I would like to know more about in the comments. Feel free to let me know, “How do you get into the artist mood?”
