Special: Things That I Want To Do During The Holidays

Hello Everybody! How are you all doing on this wonderful day?

Today is Christmas!!

To be honest this is my most awaited day of the year. Even if my family doesn’t do anything on that day. We are more accustomed to celebrate Christmas Eve. With friends, family or whomever you want to invite for the evening. Each year we wait in anticipation for the dinner. We eat a roasted pork leg, rice with pigeon peas, potato or a macaroni salad, and a random dessert. And I almost forgot about ‘coquito’. That is like the puertorican eggnog. It’s prepared with coconut milk, rum and cinnamon. At home we add a little bit of red wine. It turns the traditional coquito from white to pink. We eat, we drink, we sing carols and we play. It goes on until we get tired enough to not keep going on.

Last year I had a list of all the things I wanted to do for the Holidays. Because of Hurricane Maria some things are cancelled. I wont be able to go to the fair. I can’t go ice skating either. By now I have forgotten all the activities you could do during the season. I wanted to go out to public places and take pictures of their Christmas tree. A collection of Christmas trees. Going to the malls and watching people while they did their Christmas shopping. Doing some window shopping in stores that I could never afford. That is how I spend my holidays.

Now that I am leaving soon, I don’t care about none of those things. I want to spend the last days I have with the people I care about. With friends and family that I wont be able to see for a whole year. I will not be at home for the next holidays. It could take a few years before I can spend another Christmas with them. But I can miss this once in a lifetime chance. Far away in Canada with new friends and travel companions. I will integrate myself with their holidays and festivities. Their holidays might be different from my customs. But it is a great opportunity to learn from others and their culture.

So for these holidays I only want to spend it all with them. Having something nice to remember from back home. I will miss this so much. I will miss them a lot. But missing them it is was makes it all worth it when you return. Your memories of home become nostalgic. And I will be awaiting for the day I can celebrate another holiday with my family once more.

There you have it, another creative post. This time I guess I went a bit to reflective. But I meant what I’ve said and this is how I feel. This is the way I want to spend these holidays. Surrounded with family and friends. Nothing more and nothing less.
